Cheery and friendly, I smile,
Even when I know something is wrong,
Even when I know the worst has come.
Sweet innocence unaware, trying to find some good
In a worn-out world, a society as cruel and unforgiving
As a winter storm, full of the stinging sleet of insults
And the cold rain of lies and anguish.
I can’t let it get to me, I can’t submit to it,
As long as there’s some hope,
As long as there’s someone, out there,
Who puts the bad behind them, and
Hopes for the best, then all is not lost,
And we as a people can be saved.
